OpenAIRE

openaire

OpenAIRE is a technology and service infrastructure created in 2009 to support, accelerate and measure the correct implementation of European policies for open access to scientific publications and research data. OpenAIRE has a solid network of  National Open Access Desks (NOADs), agents that act as national reference points to disseminate the open access policies of the European Commission among institutions and researchers, as well as facilitating the co-ordination of national policies with European ones.

OpenAIRE was created in 2009 as Co-ordination and Support Action (CSA) funded by the VII Framework Program and has maintained its funding without interruption until December 2020.

FECYT has been part of all the OpenAIRE consortia, since its first edition, as the Spanish NOAD. The synergies between OpenAIRE and RECOLECTA are very strong in all aspects related to the standardization of identifiers and the interoperability of open access repositories.

OPENAIRE SUSTAINABILITY

The OpenAIRE technological infrastructure and the work of the national NOADs have become necessary services for the European Commission and its policy of open access to scientific publications and research data. In order to provide stability to these services, in 2019 OpenAIRE became a legal entity (LE) with the legal form of Non-profit Civil Partnership, of which FECYT is part.

THE SERVICES OF FECYT IN SPAIN AS OPENAIRE´S NOAD

OpenAIRE promotes open academic communication and the improvement of accessibility, reuse, reproducibility and monitoring of research results, including data, from any scientific discipline and subject area, throughout Europe and further afield. To achieve this, it makes available to researchers, librarians and repository managers numerous services and materials (guides, manuals, technical sheets, etc.) in various aspects of open access and open science, policies, research data and repository management, amongst others.

FECYT is the national helpdesk for OpenAIRE in Spain. It organizes and gives training workshops, seminars and conferences, both face-to-face and online, for researchers, support staff, librarians, repository managers, or public decision-makers. The topics range from open access basics, policy development advice and repository management to research data management.
Amongst these services, the support to the following stands out:
  • European researchers and project managers, who are informed and supported to comply with the European Commission's open access mandate.
  • Repository managers, providing support and information on the OpenAIRE interoperability guidelines.
